Walking for Your Health
In this article I share what I learned about Walking for Your Health. Exercise is a good preventative treatment for almost any medical condition, and for overall physical fitness and well-being. If you are concerned about your health, diet and exercise go hand-in-hand.
Walking is an aerobic exercise. It will get your heart pumping if you walk at a brisk pace. You can walk almost anywhere. There are neighborhoods where you may not want to walk, but usually you can find an interesting place. If you live near a park, a walk with your dog will be good for both of you. If you have been inactive and have limited mobility, walking a few steps outside and then adding a few more each day can be the start of an exercise program for you.
When it rains, you may tend to stay inside. Take a walk. You may find the rain invigorating. Walking with your family is a way to get everyone interested in fitness. You don’t have to tell them that you are walking for exercise. You make it a part of your family time together. If you do this every day, it will be something your children will look forward to doing with you. Taking your spouse or significant other for a walk in the evenings will be beneficial for your relationship. It is an activity the two of you can enjoy.
There are probably walking clubs in your community. Look for them in your neighborhood newspaper. Most adult education centers offer exercise programs and group walks are usually included. Some malls have walking clubs. If you walk by yourself, take along your portable CD player or your MP3 so you can listen to your favorite music.
A brisk 30 or 60 minute walk at least three times a week will give you the cardio benefits you are looking for.
